What we do

A builder’s precision.
An architect’s eye.

Dial A Builder is a Birmingham practice of builders, architects and interior specialists working as one team on private residential commissions across the West Midlands. For more than a decade we have taken on the projects others decline to quote for — the awkward plot, the listed structure, the basement, the cantilever — and delivered them with the care of a house we intend to live in ourselves.

Every commission is led by the same small team from first survey to final handover. We draw, we price, we build and we finish — so nothing is lost in translation between a drawing and a wall. Edgbaston, Harborne and Solihull are our heartland; we work across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.

We take on a small number of houses each year. That is deliberate. It is the only way to give a client the attention a private commission deserves, and the only way to promise a standard of finish we would be happy to hand over under our own name.

Signature service range

One team, from the first survey to the final handover.

Most clients come to us having already been told their project is too complicated, or having watched a scheme lose its intention somewhere between the drawing and the build. We keep all of it under one roof — so the house you agreed is the house you get.

Architecture & Planning

01

Concept design, feasibility, structural coordination and full planning and building-regulations consent — handled in-house from the first sketch.

New Builds

02

One-off houses from the ground up: infill plots, replacement dwellings and self-build schemes engineered for the long term.

House Extensions

03

Rear wings, glazed pavilions and full-width openings that read as though they were always part of the house.

Loft Conversions

04

Underused roof space turned into principal suites, studios and guest floors — with the light brought in properly.

Roofing & Envelope

05

New roof installations and complete thermal envelopes in slate, lead, copper and standing seam.

Interior Design & Joinery

06

Bespoke joinery, kitchens, bathrooms, stone and lighting detailed alongside the build — never bolted on afterwards.

Not sure which of these your house needs?

The process & the craft

Five stages. One continuous hand.

A house is decided long before the first brick is laid — in the survey, the structure and the joinery details. We keep all five stages inside the same team so nothing important is handed to someone who was not in the room.

01

The conversation

We start with the plot, the brief and the budget in the same room. No drawings before we understand what the house is actually for.

02

Feasibility & survey

Measured survey, constraints, planning risk and a realistic cost range — before you commit to a single line on paper.

03

Design & consent

Design developed with our own architects, then submitted and negotiated through planning and building regulations.

04

Engineering & procurement

Structural design, sequencing and long-lead procurement. Prices fixed where they can be, transparent where they cannot.

05

Build & handover

Our own trades on site, inspected at every stage, snagging closed out before we hand you the keys.

Materials chosen for how they age, not how they photograph.

Hand-fluted limestone, charred cedar, solid oak and unlacquered bronze. We specify finishes that improve with weather and use — the ones that will still look considered in thirty years, when the house has genuinely become yours.

Start a commission

Tell us about the house you want to build.

Most commissions begin with a phone call and a look at the plot. There is no charge for that first conversation, and no obligation to go further.
